Let's talk about advertising ethics 😀

I have a quick ask!

I'm currently collecting market research. Click here to fill out the 5 min survey! It would mean the world to me πŸ’œ. For more info on this, scroll to the bottom of this email!

So let me tell you a story about what reaaaally ticked me off last weekend.

I was at dinner with some friends. There was a guy there that I didn't know very well. All I knew was that he also runs Facebook Ads for his clients and himself.

He told me that he waited for Facebook's stock value to be low so he could submit an advertisement that goes against the ad policies that FB has in place. FYI, not a strategy I recommend.

(The reason the ad would be approved when FB's stock value was low is because at that point FB wouldn't be as picky with where their money is coming from.)

He created an ad for a skincare company and photoshopped the "after" photo.

From cystic acne ➑️ poreless skin.

At this point, I literally put my face in my hands and said, "there are no ethics there."

Then his friend said, "well if someone is buying from the ad they have to know that the results are fake."

*let me just re-gather myself*

WHAT?! Let me say 3 things:

1. This is false advertising through and through. Not everyone knows when they are seeing false advertising. It's best practice to be honest rather than assume that the customer knew what they were getting themselves into when they believed a false advertisement.

2. This might sound dramatic, but wouldn't you consider this stealing from your customers? Making a promise that won't come true all for the sake of a sale... ick.

3. How the heck can people sleep at night that are approaching marketing like this?! There is a reason Facebook has its advertising policies in place so that things like THIS wouldn't happen πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

Ok. So everyone loves making money. I get it. But if you have to result to false promises, then the customer loyalty isn't going to be there, and eventually, the money won't be either (for a heck of a lot of reasons I don't have the time to write out).

It reminded me of how important ETHICS are. I forgot that not only can people be extremely money motivated (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), but that they can try to make money at other people's expense (which is a very bad thing).

Finding loopholes to get more results will get your ad account disabled, turn the customers against you, or it could put you in a really nasty legal situation.

The instant gratification of a sale isn't worth it.

Now I want to hear from YOU! I'm collecting MARKET RESEARCH!

There's no obligation to fill out this survey, but it would help me HEAPS. Whether you're running ads or not, please consider filling it out. It'll help me create insanely helpful offers for you in the future!

Please fill out the form if you're:

βœ… Self-employed
βœ… Marketing your biz online

There's absolutely no shame if you're not ready to run ads, and I don't want to pressure you to feel like you have to. I just want to give you all the information so your business can kick some serious ass (and so you don't end up hiring contractors like this guy I mentioned LOL).
